Aid Organization of German Jews [Hilfsverein der Deutschen Juden]

Founded:
1901
Dissolved:
1935

The Aid Association of German Jews was founded in Berlin on May 23, 1901, at the suggestion of Paul Nathan. German Jews wanted to use their financial resources to improve the economic and cultural situation of Jews in Eastern Europe. During the Nazi era, the association had to change its name to the Aid Organization of Jews in Germany. It was unable to continue its foreign aid activities. It was officially dissolved in 1939, but continued to exist until 1941 as the emigration section of the Reich Representation of Jews in Germany.
