The Hamburg Israelite Free School was founded in 1815 as a free school for the sons of poor Jews. From 1859, it also accepted non-Jewish boys and was later renamed the Israelite Foundation School of 1815 and then the Foundation School of 1815; it was subsequently called the Anton Rée Secondary School until its dissolution in 1933.
